So yesterday I mentioned Mike Farris but gave no information.
I'll make up for that today.
I first heard one of his songs here on WGWG...Oh Mary Don't You Weep.
To say the least I was impressed and wanted to hear more of his music so I scarfed the CD.
Then last November I caught his performance at the Americana Music Association Convention in Nashville. Wow. He blew everybody away with a full band, back up singers, horns.... and his guitar went out on him before the first note....who knew?? It was incredible.
He has a Stax Records sound. Soulful. Very soulful. His album sounds like Bourbon Street inhabitants got saved then gathered for the recording session. Salvation in Lights is the CD.
If his name sound familiar, he went on the road with Double Trouble after Stevie Ray passed away. He also had his own band, The Screamin' Cheetah Willies.
He's going to be playing in our area. Here are a few dates to remember:
March 22 Neighborhood Theater opening for Blind Boys of Alabama (Charlotte, NC)
April 11 The Evening Muse (Charlotte, NC)
April 12 The Showroom (Spartanburg, SC)
June 14 Blueridge BBQ Festival (Tryon, NC)

You can find him all over http://www.youtube.com/
So now you know a little about Mike.
